Dr. Jennifer Byrd

I've been fascinated by teeth since seventh grade, when I gave a report in English class on them— a bold choice, I know—but I was committed. Despite spending a good chunk of my own childhood in the dental chair (let's just say I got to know my dentist really well), I never lost the dream of becoming one myself.
That early fascination led me to Kalamazoo College for my undergraduate studies, where I developed a strong foundation in the sciences—and a deeper understanding of how much I loved working with people. I went on to earn my dental degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, where I combined clinical training with the empathy I'd developed from years as a patient myself.
I grew up in Pierson, Michigan, as one of eight siblings. Life in a big family taught me patience, flexibility, and the fine art of negotiating peace treaties before breakfast. I also spent time in Lowell, where my dad's best friend had a big family of his own. Those visits gave me a deep appreciation for small-town life and close-knit communities.
After dental school, I was lucky enough to meet Dr. Ann Wilson and join her practice in West Michigan. I immediately fell in love with the town and the people—so much so that within a year and a half, I became her partner. Now my husband and I live in Cannonsburg, right between my hometown and the practice, where we're busy raising three energetic kids and learning to treasure both quiet mornings and loud dinner tables.
My patients sometimes ask me why I chose a career that most people dread visiting. The truth? I know what it's like to be nervous in the chair—and I love helping people feel comfortable, cared for, and even a little lighter when they leave. Dentistry isn't just about fixing teeth; it's about taking care of people. And if we can share a laugh along the way, even better.
